Safety Manager

Job Description:

Switch is looking to hire a Safety Manager for our division in Phoenix. This key position for our safety team should preferably have a strong background managing remote safety teams.  The Safety Manager is responsible for managing the safety technicians to ensure high-level and consistent operating procedures, materials, machines and conditions at work sites to be able to effectively determine risks of injury, occupational disease and potential damage to property and equipment.  The person filling this role will work with staff to develop measures for controlling workplace hazards and limit financial losses and will be the company’s point of contact for safety related matters on job sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage new employee safety orientation program and provide ongoing job specific safety training to all employees
  • Ensure that daily site safety inspections and the inspection of safety equipment is happening Ensure removal of any defective equipment and manage the fall protection equipment inspection procedures
  • Support the safety technicians to ensure that a schedule is established and followed for the preparation, submittal, review and acceptance of Job Hazard Analysis
  • Evaluate and assist develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive accepted Job Hazard Analysis program
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance regarding safety and health requirements
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to near-miss incidents, injuries, and illness for the region and develop programs and procedures to limit those circumstances from occurring
  • Participate in fact finding Root Cause Analysis for injury/incident investigations and obtain accident and injury report from jobsites
  • Review weekly written reports provided by safety technicians that provide all site safety documentation 
  • Work with safety technicians to facilitate regular safety meetings that includes compilation of materials for safety meetings, prepare agendas, and record meeting minutes
  • Support the facilitation of “return to work program” with employees, medical professionals, and project personnel
  • Serve as liaison for worker’s compensation reporting, case management, and participate in claims management process

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years safety experience in construction field that includes management of personnel
  • Extensive working knowledge of OSHA regulations, standards, and/or other applicable codes/regulations
  • Prior experience working within the heavy industrial construction industry and working in manufacturing, pipeline, mining and refining environments
  • Good computer skills with the ability to use MS Office with proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • MSHA Certification or background required
  • Must be able to manage team members and multiple projects
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal building code regulations with regard to safety

Essential Requirements:

  • Ability to work outside the majority of the time
  • Climbing up and down stairs and ladders to get in and out of trenches and up to elevated platforms (scaffolding at significant heights)
  • Fit and move in confined spaces including tanks and vessels
  • Lifting necessary equipment and materials 1-50 pounds, 50% of the time on a monthly basis for required tasks
  • Driving if required to travel (If driving is required, valid driver license and proof of insurability is required. All drivers are subject to a DMV background records search.)
